Antarctica Calling

It’s been a while since my Kilimanjaro hike. Time just keeps rolling on. Now I hear the call of Antarctica, although I am way out here in Africa away from home like a castaway. Visiting the Antarctic Center at Christchurch in New Zealand recently, riding a Hagglund and experiencing Antarctic Environment at the center rekindled my desire to check off one more items from my “bucket” list. So, here I am brooding over this. Things have certainly changed and become much easier than how people like Amundsen, Robert Scott and Shackleton accomplished this feat some 100 years ago. Those were true adventures. However, even with much improvement it’s still not a cake walk after 100 years. Age and physical fitness are still big factors for such trip. Besides, it is fairly expensive for people like me who has been slogging away to stash away some extra income so that I won’t become an old, poor man banking on that social security check alone. Then again, you don’t take anything with you. So, here I am brooding – now or never. I am exploring the possibility in 2010 December. You will know if it materializes.
