4000 and counting

"Shock and Awe", "Mission Accomplished", yet we are still at it after 5 years. Lives did not have to be lost on either side. A country did not need to be destroyed to handle one Saddam. Bush’s stupid war continues. How about sending him to Iraq to fight his war for a change? The worst president I have ever seen during my life in these United States. American and Iraqi families are paying dearly for his stupidity and his head is still buried in sand.

Spring Forward

So, we adjusted our clocks one hour forward. “Time” itself did not care what we did with our clock. The sun and the moon did not get up one hour early just because we did. The earth did not turn any faster. Anyway, the days are getting longer, the spring is here, the trees are getting new leaves, flowers are beginning to bloom, the birds are chirping, and the beaches are lively again. Yes, the world is springing forward with life whether they change their clock or not. The spring festival, the festival of color, the Bihu, the cuckoo birds, the dancers, the lovers, and the kite flyers are all coming out. Life does not start in the middle of dreaded winter on January 1; it begins in spring.

Empty vessel sounds much

India and China – countries with two billion people are trying to flaunt its newfound power, but their heads are still buried in sand.

Four top billionaires in the world (skewing the average) and millions of destitute – that is India. There are thousands of elementary schools, each with a single teacher and dilapidated facilities. Corruption, greed that allow preying on the millions even today where “have-nots” don’t count. Basic needs are not met for millions in a country where “haves” flaunt their possession and power in an obscene way. Yes, India is shining for some at the cost of the rest.

China, another world power “wannabe” is hosting Olympic games to announce to the world that it has arrived. Polluted haze in Beijing, Tiananmen Square incident, occupation of Tibet, protest by monks in Lhasa, exiled Dalai Lama, are still fresh in the minds of the world.

These two world power “wannabes” need to clean their act first, stop this hypocrisy trying to fool others, and instill basic human decency and provide basic needs to their own country folks who have nothing to show from the booming economy. Thanks to the US market that they even have such an economy that gives them the hollow bragging rights of having a few billionaires.

An Observation

They used to call Bill Clinton the 1st black president. He and his wife Hillary did a lot for the minorities and the under dogs. Now Bill and Hillary are too white for the blacks. Barak Obama, who was not black enough sometime back (born of a white mother and a Kenyan father), is adequately black and blacks are voting for him lock, stock, and barrel (80%+) in the primaries. It appears that whites are more color blind today, although some white males seem to have a gender issue on hand. It also appears that Hispanics and Blacks do not quite trust each other and are fighting for political clout. I wonder who is playing the race card and who is fighting for gender equality. Obviously, there is a generational issue as well and young Barak benefits from that.
